moving on up

We had our inspection on Valentine's Day and I would say it went pretty well, considering the age of the house. There's an electrical issue we need to take care of ASAP, but other than that we could probably do the majority of the things by ourselves. So that is good news! I've still been hesitant to really say anything to anyone (read: Facebook!) about moving because it still seems sort of weird. We're moving from a brand new (4 year old) house to an ooooolllld home. Part of me is really exited and part of me is sad to leave the place where we brought Micah home. Part of me is really happy to be able to redecorate and renovate and part of me is terrified it'll never get done! And then I have this fear that something will happen where we won't be able to close, just because of the nature of the sale. Ahhh! But assuming everything goes well, we close in less than a month.

Ugh.

That means packing. I. hate. packing. I can barely cook dinner with Micah being such a special, high needs baby (:)) so I can't even imagine finding time to pack up our house. I have a feeling a lot of things will get thrown in the garbage. Hopefully this weekend we can start looking at what we can sell / get rid of. And then I have to pick out floors and paint and wow, it all feels overwhelming. Oh and money. Yikes.

Anyway, that's what happening over here! Micah's sister tooth popped in and wouldn't you know it he slept 1,000 times better last night. Micah's new foods lately have included melon, zucchini, and mango. I really need to figure out how to start feeding him actual meals besides mashing a banana into everything. But again, I need some more time.

Is it summer ye?

too much growing up

So much has been happening over here I don't even know where to begin!

Micah is growing up entirely too fast. This month, he's sprouting a tooth (and its sister), he's crawling like mad, he's pulling himself up on things and standing (including doing this in the crib), oh, and not sleeping (big surprise there!). Slow down there big boy! I have a feeling we're going to have our hands full(er) pretty soon.

Speaking of growing up, the Grammy's, American Music Awards, and pretty much anything music related were my favorite things to watch growing up. I always taped them and would watch them throughout the year until the next award show. Weird, right? I actually wanted to watch them last night, but between baby food making, adult food making, putting Micah to bed, and getting ready for the week I wasn't able to. What I did do was keep up with the show via social media. So much different from just a few years ago. I mean, I'd catch up on who won what in the newspaper (what's that?) the next day. Now I can read tweets as things are happening. Awesome/sad, I can't decide.

We are currently in the inspection period of our new home, which means if all goes well in the inspection tomorrow, we'll be moving in the middle of March. It's sort of weird to be going from a brand new house to an old home that needs updating. I'm excited about being able to renovate and update things but a little overwhelmed at the same time. I did get some inspiration from the Willo Home Tour yesterday. We originally started looking here for homes when we decided on moving from our current home. While we could probably afford to live there (in some, not all of the homes), one of the drawbacks was that many of these homes only have two bedrooms and one bath, and one of the reasons for moving was to have a lower house payment in a home that actually has value in its location (which Willo definitely does, but a little small for our brood).

I'm currently starting week 4 of my Team Beachbody program! I'm so proud for having stuck with it for so long! While I've indulged in a little more sugar, most of my meals have been real food (creme brulee is clean eating, right?) and I haven't really been mindlessly snacking, except on clementines. I think I've lost a few pounds, but really I am looking to tone up for the most part and lose a few inches. I'm already fitting back into pre-pre-pregnancy clothes. Yay!

This week we have conferences which means a few half days. Double yay!

micah crawls

Micah went from pushing himself up on all fours, to scooting backward, to downward dog, to scooting forward, to slow crawls, and now real big boy crawls! Don't mind the obnoxious parents in the background.

dad's dirty thirty

Someone had a birthday this weekend! And someone turned thirty!

I'm going to be selfish and say that Saturday felt like my birthday, too! I dropped of Micah with Grandma and checked into the hotel. I left Jonathan behind so I could get his birthday cake and decorate the room a little bit. I had a few hours of uninterrupted time, nowhere to be, nothing to distract me like laundry or cleaning. It was fabulous.

I sat on the balcony, took pictures of the room and myself, and relaxed. It was heavenly. The rooms are so fun so naturally, I snapped some pics:

(two beds in case anyone else wanted to crash...)

Then the birthday boy came. We did some shopping at the mall then went downstairs for dinner with some friends. We spent quite a long time at the restaurant, mostly because people slowly started showing up, an hour or two late... Had some delicious martinis, good food, and conversation.

(somehow Jonathan and I never got in a picture together)...

A few of us headed out on the town and then plopped in bed around 2 am. I woke up the birthday boy at 7:45 since I had to pump and was hungry. Poor guy. We picked up Micah, opened birthday presents, and hung out the rest of the day. Jonathan never really makes a big deal about birthdays but I think they're important! So I decided this is exactly how I want to spend my birthday. And it will be in May so we can actually swim! Can we make that happen? Thanks!

Totally unrelated but found this picture while going through the camera I used that night:

I DIE!

what micah's been up to

Apparently when you turn 7 months, big things happen.

Micah's been crawling around like a crazy man. While it's not perfected, it's enough to get across the room quickly. And that's scary. He also has been holding himself up, standing, for a long period of time. Slow down, Micah!

Yesterday, my mother-in-law pointed out that he had a tooth coming in. Well this had to have happened in the last 24 hours (I always have my fingers up in his gums) and I indeed felt a little jagged tooth. It's hard to actually see. How long does an actual tooth take to come in?

When I sing something he doesn't like, he shows me his distaste my spitting and blowing raspberries. Nice.

And he now moves around too much for the phone camera:

But he's so handsome:

what i've been reading

I've stumbled across some interesting reading this week and thought I would share.

First, I've seen this "article" in a few different places and it was sort of disappointing to read, to say the least. Why do certain people feel the need to take us backward, as far as the rights of anyone goes--women, gays, races. I just don't understand. And I just don't get why people care so much about what other people do. How does me having a tattoo affect you? Does a woman marrying another woman turn your world upside down? Why are we always trying to control each other and our personal decisions? Who are any of us to judge a person's character and moral values based on their looks? On the same note I'm appalled at how much attention, negative or not, this chick is getting.

This article on Susan Komen and Planned Parenthood could open up a whole other can of worms--abortion and health care at the very least--but the bottom line is Planned Parenthood offers many other valuable services at an affordable rate for those without insurance. Now there is less funding for screening for the number one cancer killer in women.

Cutting back on sugar has felt so good. Now I see all these articles about regulating sugar like alcohol. What do you think?

The internets are full on interesting reads, don't cha think?

flying by

I swear theses weeks are just flying by! I cannot believe it's already February and, when you consider standardized testing and spring break, the school year is almost over too! I know the last few months seem to go forever though.

So speaking of flying by, this weekend we celebrate hubby's 30th birthday! It's so weird to think we're turning 30. Does that mean we're grown up? Minus having a career, mortgage, and baby, I guess this is the final stage :) I've said it a million times before but I'm very much looking forward to our thirties. I'm excited to spend this weekend with good friends, even though not everyone can partake. That's the one thing that stinks about growing up, though. Other responsibilities! I just need a day or weekend when everyone can get together. What if I volunteer my mom to babysit all of those kids? She'd love it, right?

We're needing some very good vibes again. See, our hopeful house is scheduled to go to auction on Monday. Like in 4 days. At this point we have accepted the banks counter, and now we wait for the final approval letter and short sale approval. Well that is, of course, if the auction date gets postponed. So we need good thoughts that everything will go smoothly from here on out. We initially stayed away from short sales for this reason (and the fact that it took 4 months to counter our offer!) but we saw the value in this house and the desirable location so we had to give it a shot. It helped that we didn't have anywhere else to go, so there was no rush. Positive vibes!

Lastly, I have been doing awesome on my Team Beachbody. I have been doing the workouts every day since the 23rd of January. This is the last week of the first phase and the next one is going to get more grueling. I even woke up at 4 to work out on Tuesday. Ok, I lied, Micah woke up at that time and I couldn't fall back asleep :) My diet has been really good 95% of the time, which I'm really proud of. Clean eating all the way, minus some chips here and there... but those are potatoes, right? I feel more confident about myself and I'm actually working out, which I have had no motivation to do since having Micah. It's so great being held accountable and having people in the same boat as you. I love it!

The day is starting... make it a great one!
